The Grand Mosque in Cotabato City, Largest and Grandest in the Philippines
Last Wednesday August 17, 2011, I took a bus ride of more than 3-hours from General Santos City to Cotabato City just to have my first visit to an Islamic Mosque, it's the GRAND MOSQUE in COTABATO CITY, the grandest and biggest mosque in the country.
I took the first bus trip ( Husky bus) and leave Bulaong Terminal in Gensan at around 6am and arrived in Cotabato City at around 9:45am (may stop-over pa ang bus sa Koronadal, Tacurong, Isulan and Shariff Aguak).
Then I looked for a motorcycle to take me to the Grand Mosque or Masjid Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah which is situated on a coastal area in Brgy. Kalanganan Dos almost seven kilometers away from the National Highway (salamat sa downloaded Google Map, nalaman ko kaagad that the road to the mosque is just fronting the Husky bus terminal)
The Grand Mosque occupies 5,000-square-metre area within a five-hectare prime property donated by the Dilangalen family, about 9 kilometers away from the city proper. It's so huge that it is seen from the east by those arriving by sea from the Moro Gulf and from the south by those who are landing at the Awang Airport, eight kilometres away.
There were tourists taking pictures of the Grand Mosque when I arrived, and construction is still on-going (it was wednesday) so visitors were advised not to get inside to avoid untoward incidents.

The grand feature of the mosque is the four minarets or towers which are 40-meters high or equivalent to 15-story building and equipped with speakers which will be used to call faithful to prayers.
